Yep! Journey to success

Ryan was supported to find his way forward with Yep! partner Cornwall Education Business Partnership (EBP).  He knew them through a previous project which he joined straight from Sixth Form College.

He needed to find work quickly as he needed to financially support himself. He had some qualifications but was struggling with applications and an outdated CV. He started the traineeship programme but unfortunately that did not work out. He then found work as a labourer after doing his CSCS card but work dried up, so he was unemployed again.

Jane his Youth Engagement Officer had known him for a long time, so when he contacted her she knew that Yep! offered the support he needed.

Together they updated his CV and personal statement and did regular job search activities online and with his local Job Centre.

They secured a laptop for him through Cornwall Council’s Digital Inclusion scheme which was a great help.

Jane worked with Ryan to prepare for interviews and used some funding from the project to provide some cloths suitable for interviews and fund transport for interviews, they also accompanied him to some interviews to reassure him and give him confidence.

Ryan was one of the young people that spoke to Exeter University about Yep! when they were doing research for the projects Interim Report.

He did experience several rejections from potential employers and was feeling very frustrated and he was struggling financially.  Then it happened! He secured a role with Sainsbury’s who were very impressed with him at interview.  They intend to utilise his skills with IT and have discussed a career path, with opportunities for the future.  They offer excellent benefits including a substantial discount on food which will help his financial situation with day to day living.

‘Ryan’s self-confidence and mental health has improved dramatically, and he now has a permanent and secure job. He is a very happy and is a delightful young man and we are glad to see he now has a career and a bright future before him’ Jane EBP
