Big Bang @ Exeter welcomed over 1,300+ students during the day from primary and secondary schools as well as home schooled students across Devon and Cornwall. Visitors found out about STEM careers, got hands-on activities and experienced science shows from two fantastic presenters.

The @ Event hosted a Big Bang project competition which allowed students to produce a STEM related project and present it to judges. The projects were examined and mediated and following this the judges were to decide if any of the projects could be entered into the National Fair at The NEC in Birmingham next year!

All student projects impressed with their hard work and enthusiasm and we were thrilled that Helston College students were presented with a certificate to allow them to enter their project into the National Fair Competition.

An array of exhibitors were present in Exeter University’s Great Hall where the exhibition took place, from the RAF with their mini typhoon and Mechano communications tower to South West Water with their Water Supply Challenge. The students were fascinated with the VR headsets which were available across many stands, many waited eagerly to have a go at Arconic’s robotic’s and students were also fascinated with University of Bristol biomedical science anatomy activities.

We would like to thank all the sponsors and partners for supporting this event, without the help of the RAF, South West Water, Devon County Council and Liverty, events like the Big Bang @ Exeter would not be possible. We would also like to say another special thank you to the STEM ambassadors that gave their time to support the event.

The Big Bang South West Regional Fair takes places on Wednesday 27th June at UWE Bristol Exhibition and Conference Centre. This event will continue to inspire even more young people to consider a career in STEM and will host the regional heat of The Big Bang Competition where students can submit a project to be in with a chance of going to The Big Bang National Fair in Birmingham. With a range of exciting activities under one roof including a show stage featuring live science shows and a host of hands on exhibits from businesses across the region there has never been a better time to attend.
