The Enterprise Adviser Network provides a structured, supported way to work with schools on a strategic approach to careers and enterprise.

The Enterprise Adviser Network links schools with the business community. The aim is to encourage businesses to work together with schools, helping young people to make choices about their future career.

CSW Group is working on behalf of the Heart of the South West LEP and the Careers and Enterprise Company to deliver this programme of support. We are seeking volunteers from business to act in the capacity of an ‘Enterprise Adviser’ and work directly with a school for at least an academic year.

The programme has already been running with great success in a number of schools across the region, and we are now seeking additional volunteers to move the programme forward to support more schools.

Kate Doodson, Enterprise Adviser has been working on the programme for 2 years, said; I wanted to take part in this project because I love the idea of being able to make a difference to a local school.

Just allowing the school space to think about careers advice and guidance will help them. Also, having another person’s perspective – particularly someone who is external to the school and has a business perspective – will help shape and formulate an effective plan.”

There are a number of benefits to business to get involved in this programme, including;

  • Supporting schools to get a better understand of businesses and the world of work,
  • Supporting businesses to understand how schools work,
  • Opening up opportunities to engage in work experience and apprenticeships,
  • Engaging the broader business community with the school through networks and contacts

With new statutory guidance now in place for schools click here to view the role of business in supporting schools is becoming increasingly important.

Engaging through the Enterprise Adviser Network provides businesses with a supported, structured approach to engage with schools.
