Big Bang @ School events supports schools to deliver an event to excite pupils about STEM subjects and inspire them to consider science or engineering careers.

On Friday 6th October, a fresh autumn day, over 600 students from 15 primary and secondary schools from across North Devon attended Big Bang @ Great Torrington School (GTS). Throughout the day an array of interactive workshops took place which involved hands on practical skills in STEM. From extracting their own DNA in the ‘who do you think you are’ workshop, to working with green screen technology and making sublime slime with Sciencedipity to name a few, there was plenty for the students to get involved in.

Key sponsors for the Big Bang @GTS were Group Training & Development, North Devon Manufacturers Association, Ernest Cook Trust, Holmes Hine Memorial Fund, BP, Bideford Round Table and Torrington Cavaliers.

The day was a great success with so many young people engrossed in STEM activities provided by a culmination of exhibitors from local industry and education. Sciencedipity, Greenfield Engineering, TDK Lambda, The Institute of Engineering and Technology and many others were on hand in the exhibition hall to showcase their work and inspire students to broaden their horizons.
