Apprenticeship Success through COMPASS

A CSW advisor who had been working with DP for a while felt more intensive support was needed to move into an apprenticeship and referred DP to Education Business Partnership, the Compass project provider. DP had started college the previous year on a construction course but didn’t enjoy being in a classroom environment so gave it up. DP and the Youth Employment Officer (YEO) initially worked together to look at preferred types of apprenticeship and other courses available such as CSCS.

The YEO booked DP onto a Level 1 Health and Safety in Construction course and Compass funded purchase of the revision phone app. DP passed this course successfully and was working hard at revision to gain the CSCS card. DP met with the YEO regularly to explore available apprenticeships in the nearby area and found one for a Masonry firm which DP was keen to apply for. DP complete a good quality application for these positions with the help and guidance of the YEO, followed up afterwards with the employer.

As a result, DP was invited in for a trial day and was successful in being offered the apprenticeship. DP then registered to do the apprenticeship course at Cornwall College. DP required some equipment for starting the apprenticeship and Compass project funded items such as Boots, tool belt and safety gloves. DP has now been in post three months and is getting on well.
