WORKSHOP 5: Introduction to Vacuum Resin Transfer Moulding

This workshop is for anyone currently working with composites or considering the introduction of Vacuum Resin Transfer Moulding (VRTM) to an existing composites process. For companies already using the Resin Infusion process, this workshop can be used to introduce you to the advantages of the Vacuum Resin Transfer Moulding process. Advantages of VRTM include:

Mouldings can be manufactured to close dimensional tolerances
Components will have good surface finish on both sides
Selective reinforcement and accurate fibre management is achievable
Inserts can be incorporated into mouldings
Tooling costs comparatively low compared to other manufacturing processes
Low volatile emission during processing
The VRTM process can be used as an alternative production method to other material processes as its possible to automate the process resulting in better production times and less wastage.

On successful completion of the workshop, you will be able to assist with the setting up on the components including CIJECT resin infusion systems, set up a mould for VRTM and select the appropriate materials and resins.

The workshop is a practical hands-on full day session. The morning session will focus on the equipment machinery, materials and resins as well as setting up a moulding for a resin transfer that we will start in the afternoon.

What will I learn?
  • The advantages of VRTM
  • The components and equipment used in VRTM
  • Selection of materials and resins
  • Setting up CIJECT resin infusion
  • Setting up the RTM
