A Family Support Worker’s role is not an easy task. It is not until the end of the support that we and the families realise how far they have come in the time that intensive support has been offered.

Case Studies are a great way of showing the full journey of where they were to where they are now.

Case Study 1

Family Composition and History:

  • Mental Health Issues present with both parents
  • Financial stress
  • Child’s emotional wellbeing a concern.

The Single Multi-Agency Plan:

  • Regular home visits supporting parents and children.
  • Regular 1-2-1 support addressing behaviours and coping strategies for child.
  • School visits to meet with child to build on relationships and improve self-esteem.
  • Support with on-going GP appointments and Well-Being Centre for Parents concerning their mental and physical health.
  • Feelings encouraged to share feelings with the whole family
  • Contact with School regarding younger child and meeting milestones, Specialist Support in place for toileting issues
  • Support with DLA application
  • Support with Parent accessing Autistic Assessment

The Outcomes:

  • Improved attendance for child. At step down attendance improving further.
  • Improved behaviour at home and School.
  • Young child now meeting his milestones.
  • Home environment a lot calmer, rules and routines are being followed.
  • On-going support in place for child at school.
  • Mental health and physical health being managed through GP and Well-Being Centre
  • Calmer mornings and bedtimes. Routines being used.
  • Relationships between all family members have improved and between Home and School
  • All children are now able to express their feelings appropriately and have coping strategies

  • Financial stress
  • Child’s social and emotional wellbeing a concern.
  • Attendance late and children missing educational social sessions
  • Parent substance misuse.
  • Historic DV/DA – Domestic Violence/Abuse

The Single Multi-Agency Plan:

  • Regular home visits supporting parents and children.
  • Regular 1-2-1 support addressing behaviours and coping strategies for child.
  • School visits to meet with child to build on relationships and improve self-esteem.
  • Support with on-going GP appointments Parents concerning their mental health.
  • Positive behaviour and routine charts for bedtime and morning implemented
  • Referral  for substance misuse support
  • Contact with School regarding children and meeting milestones,
  • Support with Specialist support to address debt issues
  • Support with Parent accessing Who’s in charge
  • Referral to SDAS – Southern Domestic Abuse Service.
  • Support with Child Support Agency for Child Maintenance

The Outcomes:

  • Improved attendance for children   at step down attendance improving further.
  • Improved behaviour at home and School.
  • Children now meeting their milestones.
  • Home environment a lot calmer, rules and routines are being followed.
  • On-going support in place for children at school.
  • Mental health and physical health being managed through GP
  • Calmer mornings and bedtimes. Routines being used.
  • No longer has debt issues and financially stressed
  • No longer uses any substances
  • Relationships between all family members have improved and between Home and School
  • Parent received back payment of Child Maintenance
