We’ve all had to adapt the way we work over the last 6 months and upskill very quickly in terms of our use of technology. I’ve been so impressed with the creativity shown by our talented STEM Ambassadors. Whether it’s sharing what they do over video, doing Zoom calls to students in class, creating activities that young people can do at home with their parents or giving their time to support other STEM Ambassadors they have really stepped up to the challenge! Here’s just a few things that our STEM Ambassadors have been busy with.

Bruce has been working with primary schools remotely after the plans for the annual Cardboard Boat Race had to change due to Covid. He supported the schools to make a boat and produced a video to guide them so they could still learn new STEM skills through the process.

Chris took the lead in collating as many STEM related activities as possible and hosted on his website as a resource for teachers, parents and carers to engage in during the lockdown period. It’s still there as a fantastic source of information https://www.codecreates.co.uk/stem-activities

Paul has offered his skills and knowledge to deliver virtual training to other STEM Ambassadors, most recently delivering a webinar around how to engage young people through Space and Art as part of World Space week.

Francesca has been able to continue supporting her local primary school through lockdown with the curriculum topic of weather by talking to key workers’ children via Zoom. Fran is a weather forecaster for the Royal Navy and is now working on a video to highlight the equipment she and the team use to predict the weather.

Our Ambassadors at the Met Office have been working hard to create more content for some DIY activities to do at home or school. During April – June 2020 there were over 20,000 downloads of their free resources! https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/learn-about/met-office-for-schools/other-content/diy-activities-and-experiments

We continue to work with our STEM Ambassadors who are available to deliver virtual activities, talks and live Q&A’s. If you would like to meet a STEM Ambassador or would like to join the programme yourself email us at ambassadors@cswgroup.co.uk
