Specsavers have their eyes on the future of STEM careers for young people in the South West

CSW Group are delighted to announce Specsavers as Headline Sponsor for the Big Bang South West Fair 2020. This innovative science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) event, building on 10 years of continued success, will return to Westpoint Arena Exeter across two days on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th June 2020.

Speaking about this flagship event, Specsavers Early Careers Manager, Gemma Drake, said “We are delighted that Specsavers is the headline sponsor at the Big Bang South West 2020.  It will be our 3rd year exhibiting at this careers event and it’s proven to be a great place for us to talk to teens about the local STEM job opportunities we have in Optometry and Audiology. The South West is a key recruitment area for us and we look forward to meeting even more students.”

The Specsavers exhibition will be filled with hands-on activities to inspire the 11,000 visiting students expected. Students will be able to learn about ears and eyes, glasses and hearing aids. They can also experience the latest technology used in Specsavers stores, including hospital grade eye scanning ‘OCT’ machines. With local store partners joining Specsavers on their stand, students will also be able to discuss work experience placements and the career and training opportunities available in South West stores.

The 2020 event will host the South West heat of the National Big Bang Competition. Students from across the region will enter STEM projects to be judged by industry experts. The very best projects will progress to the national finals at the NEC, Birmingham in 2020.

Paul Hobson, CEO, CSW Group said: “We are thrilled to be welcoming Specsavers as Headline Sponsors for this prestigious STEM event. As a British multinational optical retail chain, they are a key employer in the South West offering careers within Optometry and Audiology. In previous years, the Specsavers exhibition space has been especially popular with visiting students so we look forward to their large presence on the show floor in 2020.”

The Big Bang South West is open to primary and secondary school students, as well as home-educated young people.
