How can STEM Ambassadors support delivery of the Careers Strategy?

Following on from the publication of the Careers Strategy: Making the most of everyone’s skills and talents (click here for the full document). CSW Group are pleased to be able to offer free support to meet some of the new STEM requirements set out in the strategy.   For example, the document includes the following statements

  • We will ask schools and colleges to make sure that STEM encounters, such as with employers and apprenticeships, are built into their careers programme by updating school and college statutory guidance
  • Government will assess the breadth and effectiveness of current careers provision in schools and colleges on STEM, including activities to inspire students to pursue STEM careers

Accessing our FREE offer of STEM Ambassador support to your school is an easy way to help your school to meet these criteria. We can help you set up free STEM encounters using our network of 1000 STEM professionals (and apprentices) across Devon and Cornwall.  We are also able to link you up with STEM Ambassadors who are able to provide inspiring STEM interactive activities for you.   The strategy report also introduces The Gatsby Benchmarks – Standards that schools and colleges will be asked to meet. These benchmarks include the following points:

  • Linking curriculum learning to careers. All teachers should link curriculum learning with careers. STEM subject teachers should highlight the relevance of STEM subjects for a wide range of future career paths.
  • Encounters with employers and employees. Every student should have multiple opportunities to learn from employers about work, employment and the skills that are valued in the workplace. This can be through a range of enrichment activities including visiting speakers, mentoring and enterprise schemes.

Once again, accessing free STEM Ambassador support is a great and relatively simple way to evidence that your school has met these benchmarks.  All you need to do is contact Toni (toni.oatway@cswgroup.co.uk) or phone her on 07771500956 to discuss how you may want to use STEM Ambassadors in your school.
